If you're on higher ground than another game entity, whether it be friend or foe, would you be allowed to jump over them? What about jumping from walls to gain extra height? Would you be able to change direction mid-jump?
I think it'd be interesting.
1.Probably not
2.Id think so, to allow for jumping obstacles while fleeing an opponent.
3.Possibly, but Id guess not from same level
4.Wouldnt gain much, and would have to be pretty close to a higher level destination to reach it
5.Id say no, too arcadey, jumping in one direction alone would be fine

Massive overhaul on the game engine. Do you know how much trouble there is to be had to with this? Not to mention the time it will take, which is time that should be spent focusing on existing problems than just the implementaion of an irrevalent feature.
1-2.No, but it sure as hell would help!
3-5.Its a game engine change, so all would get it.
6-7. No, not really, theres already the animation, they just need to make it work while running, instead of having your character stop when you use /jump.
8.I hope you dont think ANet's gonna drop everything theyre doing now to work on jumping, thats not how its done AFAIK. I think that they continue with what improvements they currently working on, and are just deciding things like have been asked(Will it just be a basic up and down jump? What about jumping from walls to gain extra height? I mentioned it would be nice to have jumping to escape enemies(by leaping fence, for example) when I first started playing. Glad to see something happening with it.

What, in this game, requires or would be easier to do if the player could jump?

Nothing.

Jumping would just plain cool to incoperate in GW. When I first started playing I was very miffed to learn that there was no jumping (basically). I would LOVE to have more environmental freedom on the maps, being able to jump over smaller obstacles (like half the average character height or somthing), and to be able to scale mountains and jump off cliffs and ridges, etc., without having to backtrack for 5 minutes to get down a 3 foot incline, and to be able to do "stunts" and the like, that would be awesome.

I assume there would be pretty realistic mechanics integrated for these jumps, but you would still be able to have tons more freedom and have much more in PvE, I think.

The engine would have to be reworked to have a true z-axis, but it would be certainly worth it.

jumping would be nice.. would make me feel more at home with my fps roots :P..

+ running places would be so much cooler, take 4 minutes to go around a huge obstacle or climb over it.. not being limited by the terrain's edges would be really nice

No jumping/swimming, etc, please. Having natural terrain boundaries helps them to be able to make better maps (and better quest control, by knowing where/where not a player can go much more easily). Removing the clipping on bushes would be quite nice, though.

We don't so much need jumping so much as a working z-Acis and an overhauled collision detection system.

WHY do people always bring up WoW? How about BF2, with its bunnyhopping problems? And Mario Brothers! WTF?! Jumping alone, does NOT make it either of those. Im SURE ANet wont make it the "WoW I jumped over your head!", nor will we hear midi sound effects when we jump. Ive said above how I think it will go, and think its a fairly reasonable assumption.

Not really, there ARE hills too steep/cliffs that cant be climbed, Scale in the water(more dangerous versions in deeper waters), and what makes it easier is that its so limited. Manys the time I wanted to jump down about 3 feet because of the "cliff edge boundary", where you walk too close to side of mountain or something, and get caught in a dead end, having to turn around and walk bac, instead of hopping down the 3 feet to where you wanted to go.

I'm always so suprised at how close-minded much of the GW community can be about new ideas, especially those that don't affect PVP directly. That doesn't go for everyone of course.
Anyway, I would LOVE jumping; it really adds a sense of freedom to the game that is hard to put into words. Its also another reason why many people won't play/quit this game, and frankly I'm all for doing anything to ensure that GW has a looong life.

The reason is that it's such a hard idea to implement for such a little bit of new stuff. If they decided to make something that required a total overhaul of the game engine I hope that it would at least be worth it. Unfortunately, this just isn't worth the effort.
